Japanese language & culture blog

First of all, Happy Easter! Secondly, as you may have noticed, many updates to NihongoUp branded projects were deployed last week, and especially today.

Japan news aggregator

The biggest announcement is the launch of a new NihongoUp subsite—Japan news aggregator. The site is a news aggregator ala popurls with several sections to choose from depending on your interests. If you have any suggestions on how I could improve the site, or what resources I should add, please contact me!

NihongoUp Desktop

The desktop version of the game was updated with a new grammar mode allowing you to learn Japanese transitive and intransitive verbs. It’s a unique feature which I hope will help you better master the language.

NihongoUp Blog

The blog’s header was updated to better match the rest of the site.

NihongoUp frontpage

I’ve run a Crazyegg test on the frontpage and found out many interesting facts, especially that many users are clicking what they believe is a button, despite the fact that these elements aren’t part of the UI and aren’t clickable (ex. the arrows that were present on the game screenshot, or the ellipsis in the blog module). If you are interested, you may take a look at the heat map yourself. Some of these were already fixed, some are going to be fixed in the near future. I’m also planning on making a scrollable header with several screenshots (and possibly a video?) of the application.
